At the Finnish Immigration Service, we have implemented assistive automation to streamline the application processing. Our system checks that your application meets the requirements for obtaining a residence permit, Finnish citizenship, renewing a card, or registering your right of residence as an EU citizen.
Our system uses the data from your application, along with official registry data, to perform necessary checks. Depending on the need, applications are processed automatically or directed to an official for review.

Automated Decisions
The Finnish Immigration Service may make automated decisions on certain applications. If your application meets the automated decision-making criteria, and it satisfies the legal requirements for the residence permit or citizenship, an automated decision can be made.
Note: Negative decisions or decisions requiring further evaluation will never be made automatically.
Automated Post-Decision Monitoring of Residence Permits
After a residence permit is granted, we perform automated post-decision monitoring to ensure the permit is being used for the intended purpose. This monitoring is done through regular register checks to verify that you continue to meet the requirements for your residence permit.
